Akami recently released their 3rd quarter report on the state of the internet. The report documents how things are going within the internet from attacks to adoption of internet transmission technologies. The 3rd quarter report found that the United States is the 18th in overall connection speed. South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong top the list out of 203 nations tested.
Akami also has a terrific real-time global map that graphically depicts various internet statistics. Below are screenshots from Akami that display the top cities in the US for latency, recent attack frequency, and network traffic for 17Jan10.
As a web host here in the US, I am always blocking ip’s from China, Iran, and Korea. However, according to Akami’s 3rd quarter report, global trends in malicious activity have shifted this quarter. Russia and Brazil took the top spots from the U.S. and China as the two largest attack sources, accounting for 22% of total observed attacks
