Since 2007, Piwik has been providing their open-source web analytics program for public use. Next, in July of 2009, they were selected as the Sourceforge Project of the month. Piwik morphed into the next generation of phpMyVisites, which is still operating. I have been using Piwik just short of a year now for around half of my domains. The latest version of Piwik (v.0.5.4) is the breath of fresh air that I was waiting on to fully make the switch from Statcounter. Don’t get me wrong, Statcounter is great, but if you have the means to operate your own analytics you might do so.
Piwik offers you the opportunity to use their API to create custom widgets and much more. This is not your ordinary server-side web analytics, it is your gateway to freedom!
